Ellen Kristine (nee Ronningen) Bartz

Ellen was born February 22, 1930, in Max, ND to Even and Kristine (nee Rodberget) Ronningen. She attended a rural school through the eighth grade and high school in Max graduating in 1948. She earned a Standard Diploma in 1951 from Minot State Teachers College. She was united in marriage with Carl Bartz on August 14, 1955, upon his return from service in the Korean Conflict.

In 1980, she completed her education with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree at Minot State College. She taught school for 31 years. She started in Coleharbor, then Garrison and ending her career with 24 years at Parshall, ND. The majority of her teaching was in special education and Title I reading for grades 1-3.

Ellen was an active community member in Parshall. She was a member of a Homemakers Club and the American Legion Auxiliary as well as active in all church activities at First Lutheran Church. She was a fine cook, specializing in lefse; a talent she learned from her mother. She enjoyed doing fine needlework as well as reading the Bible and devotions.

She and Carl were married for 42 years. In 1997, they moved to Bismarck to be closer to doctors. After Carl passed, she lived with her son, Brian, in Bismarck. There she was active at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway and the Good Neighbor Club.

In 2017, she moved into assisted living as dementia was starting to show. She suffered from the effects of mini strokes in 2020 and a fall which severed her hip bone in 2023. Ellen Bartz, 95, died Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Benedicts Place at St. Vincent's nursing home. Ellen's days on Earth numbered 34,956. May God bless her memory among us.

Ellen is survived by her children, Robert (Barb) of The Villages, FL, and Brian of Bismarck; grandchildren, Nathan (Anna) of Deltona, FL, and Emily Bartz (Alex Yamamotoof) of Rio Rancho, NM; and great-grandchild Hannah Bartz. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lars Andreas, parents, sister, Karen Bidwell and husband.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00PM, Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck.

Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, Monday, November 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
