Ellen "Ellie May" Renner

Ellen Kathleen (Hedstrom) Renner, Wilton, passed away Jan. 23, 2021 at Miller Pointe, Mandan. Ellen died from complications due to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Ellen was born June 1, 1945 in Bismarck to Bert and Lillian (Nord) Hedstrom. She was the great-granddaughter of Linda Slaughter, one of the original North Dakota pioneer women and schoolteachers in the territory.

She married John Renner of Washburn in 1962 and had two children, Angela and Robert.

Ellen was known to many as Ellie. She managed U-Serve in Washburn for many years before moving to Bismarck while working at Menards. Ellie was among the first employees when they opened the company in Bismarck and stayed with them for 25 years until retirement. Ellie loved to spend time gardening, growing plants and flowers inside and out. She was also an avid reader.

She is survived by her children, Angie (Rusty) Box, Washburn, and Bob (Julie) Renner, Bismarck; grandchildren, Eric (Bianca) Renner, Bismarck, Brayden Renner, Bismarck, Jazlyn (Ben Handley) Renner, Salem, Oreg., Aubree Renner, Bismarck, and Trinidee Renner, Bismarck; great-grandchildren, Braelyn and Brekken Renner, Bismarck, and Cedar and Hassle Handley, Salem, Oreg.; sister, Shirley (Larry) Richter, Bismarck; brother, Denis Hedstrom, Fla.; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hedstrom, Wilton; and well as many loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Lillian Hedstrom; brothers, Elton (Darlene) Hedstrom, Boyd (Rose) Hedstrom and Bruce (Bonnie, living) Hedstrom; sisters, Carol Driver and Lois (George) Andrusak.

Funeral Arrangements will be postponed until the spring when Ellie will be laid to rest at Sunny Lutheran Church/Cemetery, Wilton, among many friends and family.
