Elsie Volk, 68, Bismarck, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, October 25, at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N 2nd St., Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm Tuesday, October 24, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Elsie was born October 3, 1949, in Zeeland, ND, to Anton and Elsie (Keller) Meier. She met the love of her life, Jim Volk, whom she happily married on September 7, 1968. Together they made their home in Bismarck, ND, where they raised four children. Elsie enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends, along volunteer work and working in her flower gardens. She was very active and faithful in her church. Elsie is survived by her husband Jim, Bismarck; her four children, Sheila (Jerry) Tishmack, Underwood, ND, Tina (Glenn) Leier, Bismarck, ND, Brian (Kim) Volk, Bismarck, ND, and Darren (Stephanie) Volk, West Fargo, ND. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Kaylee and Cole Tishmack, Brian, Seth and Nathan Leier, Brennen Bitz, Jennifer and Jordyn Volk and Beckett Volk; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin Leier, Aiden Volk, and Holden Leier; her sisters and brothers, Rosemary Puklich, Bernice Puklich, Luella (Keith) Draeger, Kenny (Linda) Meier, Dee (Stan) Fossum, Victor (Sarah) Meier, Anna (Lorin) Kahl, Deb (Craig) Hester, and Andy (Janelle) Meier. Elsie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with her oldest and dearest friend, Connie Skarphol. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Anton Meier, Elsie Meier (Keller), and Julia Meier (Wald); her brothers, Isador, Anton Jr., and Val Meier; and her granddaughter, Brittany Leier.
