Ervin L. Magstadt passed away on August 14, 2025 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 23 at Cornerstone Church, 111 E Wachter Ave, Bismarck. Family will greet guests one hour prior.
Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Ervin was born on September 12, 1934 to Gottfried and Cinderella (Biffert) Magstadt in Hebron, ND. He was one of four children raised on a farm south of Hebron.
In August 1952, Ervin married Darlene Straub at a rural church. After working construction several years over different parts of the state, they settled down in Bismarck in the early 60’s to raise their family.
Ervin initially drove semi-truck for a local business which gave him a taste for the trucking business. Ervin started his own trucking business in the 1980’s called ELM Trucking. He operated the business until he retired.
Ervin enjoyed spending time with his family, which included camping trips and some fishing and hunting.
In 2005 due to irreconcilable differences, he and Darlene divorced.
In 2009 he met Margie Nieland and married her in 2010.
Ervin is survived by his sister, Bernice Jamgochian; daughters, Shar Opheim (Kenny), Adelle Paul (Kenneth), Tammy Adams (Dale); son, Calvin (Fran); seven grandchildren, Aaron Opheim (Chrystal), Kara Opheim, Tyler Paul, Sarah Hacker (Brennan), Issac Adams, Ben Magstadt, Nick Magstadt; and two great-grandchildren, Eban Opheim and Wyatt Hacker. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Sherri Stewart and LaShell Papineau, along with five step-grandchildren and three great-step-grandchildren.
Ervin was preceded in death by his wife, Margie; parents, Gottfried and Cinderella; brother, Rueben; sister, Judy; brother-in-law, Floyd; and sister-in-law, Viola.
