Interment at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Evie was born in Mandan on October 26, 1949 to John and Ann Hatzenbuhler, the second of five. She grew up in Solen ND, helping with the family business.  She graduated from Solen High School in 1967.

Swept off her feet by her high school sweetheart, Gene “Geneo” Berger, Evie got married October 14, 1967 and they started their life in Mandan. Evie and Gene had four children, Tanya, Geneo, and the twins, Delaney and Dustin.

Evie was a waitress at recognizable places to include Skelly’s Truck Stop, Fiesta Villa, The Ground Round and Red Lobster. She loved serving, predominantly because she loved interacting with people. Humble, kind and committed to being her very best.

She was fully committed to her walk with Jesus. Regularly attending church and bible studies. She felt that the closer she was to Jesus, the better mother, friend and example she would be. She wholeheartedly believed in working hard without regret, leaving a good name behind, in case you decide to return, and being nice. Values she instilled deeply in her family. Listen, this is what she would want everybody to know: “It’s time to celebrate, Mama’s home. Get the music out, grab a dance partner and lets get after it. I’m partying tonight in heaven! Hallelujah!”

She liked being in yard, going to the cabin, shopping, calling all of her kids on the phone, profusely, several times a day, and horse events with her daughter and grandson. Football, baseball, wrestling, you name it, so long as she was with family, she was excited. She had a zest for life and loved to laugh. Gizmo, her dog was important to her and she’d want him to know she’s happy.

As Evie would say: “Love it all, the ups, the downs, the all arounds. Do your best, don’t sweat the small stuff, be upset but get over it, I forever love you and I’m so proud of you. Take care of each other. Love each other, hold each other and forgive each other.  To my grandkids, “You brought me so much joy, dream big, work hard and reach for the stars. You can do it, Grandma believes in you. Now make it happen!” Hooray, Grandma’s gone home!” Yipeeee! Love you more! Thank you Jesus! God has perfect timing!”

Evie is survived by her siblings, Carlene (Don) Friesz, Karen (Leon) Glasser, John Hatzenbuhler; children, Tanya (Rod) Wetsch; Gene Ray “Geneo” Berger II, Delaney (Kristin) Berger, Dustin (Krystal) Berger; grandchildren, Austin (Kinzie) Wetsch, Lucas Wetsch, Dylan Wetsch, Gene Red Berger III, Jack Berger, Charlie Berger, Tate Berger, Dash Berger, Ripp Berger and Koko Berger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Berger, who is undoubtedly hugging and holding her, together again happily; brother, Donald Hatzenbuhler;  and her parents.
