Born in Linton, ND on October 5, 1943, Evelyn was the daughter of Morris and Eva (Gisinger) Masset. She grew up in the area, where she first met the love of her life, Kenneth Jahner, at the local roller rink. A bit shy, Kenneth needed a little push from his sibling, who offered him 25 cents to help him ask her to skate—a moment that led to their wedding on April 23, 1960.
Family was everything to Evelyn. Together with Kenneth, they raised their kids Twila, Myron and Stacy, and she welcomed all who came through their doors with warmth and hospitality. Known for her delicious cooking, Evelyn had a special talent for making wedding kuchen and cheese buttons. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, and sewing.
The family moved around due to Kenneth’s job but eventually settled in Hazelton, where Evelyn was more than willing to help out on the farm, even taking the wheel of the big machinery. In 2017, after retiring, they made their home in Mandan. Kenneth passed away in March 2026.
Evelyn’s spirit lived for her family. She was the caring wife, loving mom, and doting grandma, always more focused on others than on herself.
She is survived by her son Myron (Rita) Jahner of Bismarck; daughter Stacy (Jayme) Kramer of Mandan; son-in-law Gerald Sathren of Linton; grandchildren Nikki (Terry) Goldade, Casey Jahner, Justin Jahner, Jamie Sathren, and Colby Kramer; along with five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; her daughter Twila Sathren; parents; sister, Irene Jahner and brother Joe Mosset.
