On Friday Oct. 22, 2021, Evelyn Cecelia Walter, 88, Bismarck, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 519 Raymond St., Bismarck.
A rosary/vigil service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave., Bismarck.
Evelyn was born March 16, 1933, in Tayler to Anton and Anna (Goetz) Banyai. Evelyn spent her youth in Dickinson, where she met Richard Walter at a dance. They were separated when Richard entered the service during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, Richard and Evelyn were married May 12, 1953 in Dickinson.
Richard and Evelyn then moved to Bismarck where seven of their 10 children were born: Keith, Rodney, Cheryl, John, Bryant, Brenda and Darrell. In 1963, Richard was transferred back to Dickinson where their final three children were born: Gerald, Anne, and Richard. Besides being a fulltime mother to her children, Evelyn was an avid reader and enjoyed a variety of word puzzles. She loved to play cards and games with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Evelyn and Richard loved to dance and enjoyed bowling leagues with their friends. They also loved to travel to visit family in Arizona, California, Washington, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Keith (Kim), Glendale, Ariz., Rodney, Spearfish, S.D., Cheryl, Bismarck, John, Mandan, Bryant (Debra), Bismarck, Brenda, Bismarck, Darrell, Bismarck, Gerald (Joy), Glendale, Ariz., Anne (Charles) Hendrickson, Judson, and Richard (Julie), Bismarck; grandchildren, Joshua (Beth) Helmer, Amy Helmer, Danielle Helmer, Jaelyn (Cody) Chathams, Jessica (Tom) Carter, Brandon Walter, Christopher Walter, Nicole (Ronnie) Garza, Raymond Morgan, Jacob Morgan and Jordan Walter; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Isaac, Anya, Josiah, Elijah, Lexi, Zachary, Hayden, Liam, Breyer, Riley, Bradley, Mason, Hailey, Riley, Colton and Julietta; sister, Jeanette Hicks, Reno, Nev.; brother, Tony Banyai, Sacramento, Calif.; sister-in-law, Phyllis Walter, Concrete, Wash.; and her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Anton and Anna Banyai; siblings, Katherine Wageman, Marilyn Brown, Loretta Robinson, Richard Banyai and Raymond Banyai; brothers-in-law, Theodore Walter and Bert Walter; and sister-in-law, Delores Malloy.
