Obituary

Forest Dean Durow, 87, passed away on September 17, 2019, at Ecumen Seasons in Apple Valley, MN after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. 

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019, at United Church of Christ, 1200 East Highland Acres Road, Bismarck, ND, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan, ND at 1:00 p.m.

Forest was born on December 30, 1931, in Max, North Dakota, to Hermann and Nettie Durow.  He graduated from Max High School in 1949.  Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1951 – 1955.   He then returned to North Dakota and attended Minot State Teacher's College.  While in Minot he met Joan Heilbrun.  They married in 1957 and moved to Fargo, ND where Forest received a degree in civil engineering from NDSU.  After college graduation, Forest and Joan moved to Bismarck, North Dakota.  In 1959, Forest was employed as a draftsman with the ND DOT and worked his way up through the years and, upon his retirement in 1994, he was the Chief Bridge Engineer for the State of North Dakota.

Forest is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter Vicky (Gene) Limesand, Apple Valley, MN; daughter Brenda (James) Brunelle, Fargo, ND; son Steven (Nancy) Durow, Fargo, ND; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
