Obituary

Garrie DeWayne Dallmann, 74, was born on a farm northwest of Edgeley, ND on September 8, 1951 to Otto and Maria Dallmann. He passed away on his farm surrounded by family on August 14, 2026.

Prior to working at BNSF, he held a variety of jobs that provided him with skills such as welding, electrical, plumbing, mechanics and construction. These skills would prove to be invaluable in his later years. He was truly a jack of all trades!

Garrie met the love of his life, Roxanne Schultz, and they created their wonderful and complete family consisting of Julie, Jason, Josh and Jennifer in Jamestown, ND.

In 1994, due to a work transfer, his dream of moving to the farm became a reality. He purchased a wheat field north of Bismarck, ND and he eventually moved his family there in 1996. In 2011, he retired from a 37-year career at BNSF and became a farmer/rancher.

He found peace in the stillness of the country, spending much of his time working the land, caring for his cattle and keeping machinery running. He found peace working outside, specifically with his cattle, and felt most at home at the farm in wide open spaces.

He was a hardworking rancher of few words who deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was proud of all his children and grandchildren. You would see that pride, love and joy become very evident when interacting with his family.

He shared his strength with everyone he loved and valued an honest day’s work. His family teased him that he worked harder in retirement! He passed this strong work ethic on to his children.

Though he had very little spare time, he spent it making memories on family camping trips and other adventures when his kids were young. In his later years, he enjoyed watching classic westerns, growing closer to Christ through video study and reading and always welcomed a Heath Blizzard with a smile (even if it involved trickery to acquire)!

He might have been seen by some as keeping a tough exterior with a gentle heart underneath. He often shared his love through his steady presence rather than his words.

Garrie is survived by his wife, Roxanne Dallmann; his children, JulieAnne (Richard) Walter, Jason (Jessica) Dallmann, Joshua (Dani) Dallmann, Jennifer Lorentzen; his grandchildren, Jaxon and Samantha Dallmann, Hudson and Oliver Dallmann, Hanz and Ezra Lorentzen; brothers, Donavan (Jamie) Dallmann, Kevin (Becky) Dallmann; half-sisters, Dieana Hottmann, Thelma Kinzler, Laverne (Richard) Henderson; half-brothers Leroy Dallmann, Robert Dallmann; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Maria Dallmann, and numerous brothers, a sister and many half brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 21 at the Bismarck Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1109 N 26th St, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, 3117 E Century Avenue, Bismarck. A prayer service wil begin at 7 p.m.
