Gary Dirk

November 2, 1952 — September 25, 2025

Gary Dirk, 72, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away on Thursday, September 25 after dealing with an ongoing battle of cancer. He was strong and stubborn until the end when he passed surrounded by his loved ones. Gary was born on November 2, 1952, in Bismarck, the son of Margaret and Vitalis Dirk. Gary grew up in a large family, where he learned the values of hard work and loyalty. He is survived by his sisters, Marie and Dorothy, and joins in eternal rest with his parents, Margaret and Vitalis, along with his brothers Ed, Dave, Tim, and Mike.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, October 1, at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 520 Raymond St, Bismarck.

Visitation will take place from 5:00–8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 30, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck.

A respected figure in the construction industry, Gary was the co-owner of Boundary Construction alongside his partner Donn Haas. Known as a business owner, boss, and mentor, he guided many in the trade with his knowledge, work ethic, and steady leadership.

Gary lived life with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He was an avid reader and history buff. Together with his devoted wife, Bonnie, he built a home on five acres of land where they cherished mornings watching the sunrise and evenings watching the sunset from their deck. He loved gardening, flowers, and vibrant colors, often spending countless hours tending and gardening the land he so proudly cared for. Over the years, camping trips with his family and shore fishing with his dogs became some of their most cherished memories.

Gary was a master of the charcoal grill, well-known for preparing his famous ham and hosting memorable backyard gatherings filled with laughter, food, and friendship. He was also an avid sports fan, following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings with equal measures of hope and frustration. Golf was another love—particularly the PGA Tour, where he remained a loyal supporter, never swayed by the rise of LIV Golf. Gary and Bonnie took yearly trips to Las Vegas becoming a tradition where they embraced the fun of room service, food, entertainment, and of course, gambling.

Gary leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie, his daughters Nikki (Kris), Sara, Shannon (Jeff), and his seven grandchildren: Sabrina, Ashlyn, Katlyn, Grace, Ella, Josiah, and Melissa. He was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Evelyn. He will be deeply missed by his furry companions Dottie and Oakley.

Gary will be remembered for his stubbornness, love for dogs, strong work ethic, and love for simple yet meaningful moments. His legacy will live on in the family he cherished, the friends he supported, and the countless lives he touched throughout the years.
