Gary was born May 2, 1947 to Harold and Edna (Lee) Krause. As the oldest of three boys, Gary grew up in Carson, helping out at Krause's Super Valu, the family grocery and dried goods business. Gary graduated from Carson High School in 1965 and went to University of North Dakota where he majored in accounting and became a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. In 1968, he entered the US Army and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge he traveled through Europe for a few months before going back to UND to finishing his degree. Soon after that Gary opened up The Midnight Rambler Bar in Mandan, N.Dak., characteristic to Gary! Later, he became a truck driver for North American Van Lines. Gary had driven all over the lower 48 states. He then retired from many years of driving to come back to Carson to care for his parents.
Gary was a lifelong member of The Carson American Legion where he served in any needed capacity. He also delivered meals for folks confined to home, and was an active member of his local church.
Several years ago Gary connected with his Daughter Linda in Washington. A few years ago Gary moved out there to be close to her and his son-in-law A.J. The family is eternally grateful for the care Linda and A.J. had given him before he went into the care center.
