Gay was born on August 14, 1946 to Fred and Ruthanna Rasmussen of Havana, ND. She graduated from Havana High School in 1964 before continuing her education at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. In college, she met the love of her life, Patrick Kuhn, and married in 1966. Together, they welcomed three beautiful children: Jacqueline in 1967, Richard in 1970, and Wendy in 1973.
They moved to Bismarck in 1976 and quickly found a group of friends that became family. They spent their time together camping, fishing, and making each other laugh. The group became affectionately known as the Yellow Birds, a name they use to this day.
Gay worked three years as a secretary in a law firm before becoming the longtime bookkeeper for KFC and Big Boy, and later Waldoch Golf Shops and Hawktree Golf Course. Throughout her life, she was a devoted mother and, later, grandmother and great-grandmother. Pat and Gay welcomed their first grandchild, Tyler Grube, in 1989 as well as Kaitlyn Grube in 1993, Tatyana Egli in 1996, Cassidy Egli in 2003, and Colton Egli in 2004. One of Gay’s greatest joys in life was spending time with her grandchildren and watching their activities.
She is survived by her loving husband, Pat Kuhn; three children, Jaci Grube, Rick (Colleen) Kuhn, and Wendy (Dwayne) Egli; five grandchildren: Tyler (Ana), Katie, Tatyana, Cassie, and Colton; and two great-grandchildren: Natalie and Logan Hansen. She is also survived by her two brothers, Kim (Sandy) Rasmussen and Kurt Rasmussen as well as Pat’s nine siblings and her many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and one great-great-nephew and one great-great-niece.
Gay was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruthanna; her in-laws, Pete and Lorraine Kuhn; her two sisters, Merry Krafka and Janna Rasmussen; her nephew, Bob Krafka; and her son-in-law Eric Grube.
In lieu of flowers, all memorials will be donated to Bismarck Public Schools’ Nutrition Services for elementary students in need.
