Jerry was born to Norman and Colleen Guler and was the youngest of six children. He grew up in Bismarck where he attended Highland Acres Elementary School, Hughes Junior High School and graduated from Bismarck High School. During his high school years, he ran cross country, track and played hockey, lettering in all sports. He graduated from Dickinson State University. He enjoyed serving as a flight medic in the North Dakota Army National Guard.

He married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Mary Maichel, and they were inseparable.

Jerry was athletic and loved to walk, hike, bike, ice skate, cross country ski, golf, play tennis, hunt birds and fish. He was also an avid reader. Anytime a subject piqued his interest he’d get books and learn all about it and teach himself new skills. Jerry loved animals and always had at least one pet. He really enjoyed volunteering at the animal shelter, which once resulted in his adoption of two cats who were in need of a good home. He regularly fed and cared for stray animals. He was a Master Gardener, growing all kinds of fruits and vegetables, and he always managed to grow more and bigger vegetables than the previous year. Jerry had a good sense of humor and had a penchant for saying funny one-liners. Jerry was thoughtful, kind and generous.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary; siblings, Robert (Carol) Guler, Brian (Kathy) Guler, Barbara (Jeff) Collins and Mary P. Guler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bruce Guler.
