Gertrude "Gertie" Bauer

June 17, 1921 — January 10, 2024

New Salem

Gertrude “Gertie” Breimeier Bauer gained the gift of joining her Heavenly Father in her eternal home on January 10th 2024.

She was born June 17th, 1921 to Magdalena (Auwinger) and Fredrick Breimeier on a farm in the Otter Creek, ND area. She was baptized and confirmed (in German) in the Otter Creek Lutheran Church of Otter Creek.

She attended a rural elementary school and graduated from Zap High School. She got a teaching degree from Valley City College. She amused us with stories about her hitchhiking experiences with her college roommate Lily. She got a Bachelor's Degree from The University of Mary. On January 6, 1944 she married Edmund Bauer, whom she met as a child in church, in De Ridder, LA. They lived in California for a short time before settling in New Salem.

Gertie’s teaching career extended from New Rockford, Otter Creek, North of New Salem, West of New Salem, North Almont, and Judson rural schools. She concluded her teaching career at Prairie View Elementary School in New Salem. She loved teaching and was quite hesitant to retire.

Gertie was an involved member of Zion Lutheran Church. She participated in LWML, various Bible studies, teaching Vacation Bible School, etc.

Gertie and Edmund enjoyed traveling to many places. She spent as much time as possible with her family, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors who were always welcome in her home.

She is survived by her children Carol Lohman (Bill) of Leavenworth, KS, Sharon Mosbrucker (Ron) of Lincoln, ND and Dennis Bauer (Carol) of Lame Deer, MT, eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren and two sisters, Esther Degel, and Sally Hasse, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund, parents, sisters Ella Bickel, Lydia Bickel, Erna Anderson, brothers William Breimeier (her twin) and Paul Breimeier.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Zion Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Hour, and Circle of Life Lutheran Church, P.O Box 1214, Lame Deer, MT 59043.
