Because I know how hard it can be for loved ones to write an obituary in the midst grief, I am choosing to write my own. I also don’t want anyone exaggerating about who I really was.
I was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on September 4th, 1957 and passed away on November 19th, 2025 peacefully at home in the loving care of my amazing wife, Lauri. I was the son of Ray and Isabelle (Nicholson) Schlosser and was the second born of five siblings. I married Lori Heinsohn and together we had our daughter, Kasey. On May 17, 2003, I married Diane Sigl-Thilmony who had two children from a previous marriage, Deondra and Jordan, who I loved like my own. After a long battle with cancer, Diane passed away on Aug. 27, 2015.
On May 12, 2018, I married Lauri Lauer-Hanson. This love grew as a result of friends getting us together because we had both lost spouses due to deaths. These friends saw that we were both struggling to find a way forward and thought it would be good for us to talk with each other. While neither of us were looking for a relationship, we fell in love and eventually I asked her to marry me. I am so grateful that God gave me a wonderful partner and best friend to share the last chapter of my life. It didn’t matter if we were having an adventure, helping each other through a struggle, or just doing nothing, as long as we were together, we were happy. Thank you for sticking with me through it all!
I graduated from Mandan High School in May 1975. I went to Bismarck State College and graduated with a two-year associates degree in Business Administration. From there I went on to Moorhead State University and graduated with a degree in Finance. For the first couple years after college, I had several different jobs. In 1981 I got an accounting position with the Attorney General’s Office in the Gambling Enforcement Department. I worked there from August 1981 through January 2004 and that’s when I went to work for Industrial Contractors, Inc. I worked for them until my retirement in July 2020.
Some of my favorite things (in no particular order) are: spending time with my family and friends, watching wildlife from my bow stand, sharing a good belly laugh, reading my Bible, taking in a North Dakota sunset from my deck, eating a good burger, going for a drive in my truck with my wife, doing yardwork, spending time in the Badlands, finding an excuse to go to Orange Leaf, spectating my grandkid’s sporting events, drinking orange juice, receiving a call or text from my kids, getting in a round of golf on a day without wind, listening to music, reeling in a fish, walking on the beach, hanging out in my garage, savoring a good caramel roll or donut, attending Sunday morning service at Evangel, riding bike, and the color blue.
I am survived by my wife, Lauri; my children Kasey (Scott) Janz, Deondra (Corey) Bruner, and Jordan (Jenny) Thilmony; my grandchildren Emma & Maddie Janz, Bodee, Zander, & Halle Bruner, and Kambri, Ayden, & Landon Thilmony; my siblings Tim, Doug, Mike (Carol), and Mary (Paul) Brucker; my brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s Perry Lauer, Sheila (Pat) Faul, Brendon (Stacy) Lauer, Corey (Melissa) Lauer, Jerry (Adele) Sigl, Annette (Greg) Link, and Julie (Kelly) Wetzel; my family across the street (Brian, Alicia, Izzy, Parker, and Sawyer); my foster grandsons, Jayden and Zander; many nieces and nephews; and some of the best friends a guy could ask for.
I was preceded in death by my parents, Ray and Isabelle; my in-laws, Lloyd & Jan Lauer and Ray & Dorothy Sigl; brother-in-law Ray Sigl, Jr.; my godparents Bob & Wanda Weist; and numerous aunts and uncles.
I would like to thank Dr. Kurniali and the Sanford oncology staff, Dr. Courtemanche and the Sanford urology staff, and Dr. Watkins and Dr. Lee and the staff at the Bismarck Cancer Center for the excellent care you gave me.
While my journey here on earth came to an end before I wanted it to, I am thrilled that by the time you read this, I will have already walked miles on the streets of gold with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Until we meet again . . . . . .
His family would like to extend their appreciation to HIA Hospice for the exceptional care they provided Greg. Thank you, Tara, Sheri, and Nicole, for doing what you do!
