Herbert C. Ritz

The Lord took Herbert Ritz into His loving arms on June 19, 2024. Herbert was 94 Years old at the time of his death.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 27, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 26, at Parkway Funeral Service. 

Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. 

Herbert was born on January 27, 1930, to Carl and Katie Ritz of Judson, North Dakota. On October 1st, 1952, Herbert married the love of his life, Lucille Miller. They were blessed with 3 children and 71 years of marriage.

Herbert served in the Army (Artillery Division) from 1954 to 1956. During that time, he spent one and half years in Germany. He worked in many states as a bricklayer such as Virgina, New Mexico, Wyoming, South Dakota and Minnesota. Herbert also ran his own masonry business for many years. Herbert liked to keep busy and had a passion to help where he could, he helped deliver meals to the elderly through Meals on Wheels at the Senior Citizen Center and served meals at the Bismarck Amvets.

Herbert loved to dance, he would dance with anyone at weddings and was known to dance with Lucille in their kitchen. He also cherished his friends and family and would have them over to play pinochle and other card games. He also greatly enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and baking cookies which everyone loved. He was famous for making Hutzelbrot bread, a German fruit and nut bread. When Herbert wasn’t cooking, he was traveling with Lucille to visit friends and family. They were able to fulfill their lifelong dream of seeing the Statue of Liberty in New York.

Herbert is survived by his three children, Jeff (Cindy) Ritz, Judy Schieve, Mary Rader, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Ritz, his parents Carl and Katie Ritz, eleven brothers and four sisters.
