Herman Eggers

Bismarck

Herman Eggers, 92, Bismarck, passed away January 19th, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. 

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 26th at 10:30AM at the Mandan Union Cemetery.

Herman was born to Jürgen and Anni (Ehlers) Eggers on July 21st, 1932, in Westerhever, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. After high school, he went to the Hagenuk trade school in Kiel, Germany, learning the trade of electric motor rewinding. In March of 1953, Herman was sponsored by his uncle Hans Eggers to emigrate to the United States and live on his farm north of New Salem. He worked on the farm for a short time before he was hired by Erling Schacht at Dirlam Shop in Bismarck where he worked on electric motors until 1968. In the fall of 1968, Herman started Eggers Electric Motor Company and in 2018, celebrated 50 years in business. Herman married Berit Holtskog-Peterson in 1959 in Bismarck.

Herman and Berit loved to travel and they visited Norway and Germany many times and also to many exotic destinations in the far corners of the world. Herman was very happy to have traveled with Berit on one of the final flights of the supersonic Concorde airplane from New York to London and returning to New York on the Queen Elizabeth II.

Family was very important to Herman and he spent a great deal of time talking with his children and grandchildren about business, current events, real estate and history. 

Herman is survived by his children, Ann Peterson Farrell and her son, Chris Farrell (Toni) and their children, Catherine and Elliott; Greg Peterson and his son, Brant; Hans Eggers and his children, Kurt, Evan and Rose; Rolf Eggers (Leah) and his son, Conrad, and Conrad’s son, Liam; and Mark Eggers (Mary) and their children, Hannah, Alex and Kristin (Estefano Fennis Wiegmans). 

Herman was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brothers, Hans and Helmut; grandsons, Erik Eggers and Grant Eggers, and his infant great-grandson, Paul Farrell.

Memorials may be given to Heaven’s Helpers Soup Kitchen or Ministry on the Margins.
