Iva Slag, Bismarck, passed away on the 7th day of September, 2022 after a brief illness. She left us only weeks before her 99th birthday.
In lieu of a memorial service, there will be a celebration of life service which will tentatively be planned for her 100th birthday.
Burial will be at the Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan ND.
Iva was born on a farm near Edgeley, ND on September 27, 1923, to Henry and Emma Kracke. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and attended a one room school. She graduated from Edgeley High School in 1941 and attended Ellendale College. She enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged a short time later when the war ended.
She married Bernard Slag of Bismarck on Nov 10, 1948. They were the parents of two much loved children, Cindi and Jerry.
She very much enjoyed her job as a legal secretary, walking, dancing, bible study, reading, watching baseball, working crosswords and jig saw puzzles, embroidering and watching the birds and squirrels. She has always loved cats and has had many, which brought much comfort and happiness into her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindi Russell; her husband, Chuck Russell; two very dear grandsons, Chris (and his wife Jenna) and Andy Russell; one handsome great-grandson, Braxton and four beautiful great-granddaughters, Nora, Molly, Rosie and Cecelia. She is also survived by one brother, Hank (Pauline); two sisters-in-law, Wilma and Ann, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; father and mother-in-law, (Frank and Hermina Slag), husband, Bernard, in 2006 and son, Jerry, in 2007; four brothers, Clarence, Melvin, Alvin and Art and three sisters, Esther, Alice and Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, 413 East Ave D, Bismarck, ND 58501; ND Veterans Cemetery Foundation, 46th St, Mandan, ND 58554; Central Dakota Humane Society 2104 37th St, Mandan, ND 58554, or to the donor’s choice.
