Jacqualine R. Oberlander, 87, passed away on December 6, 2025, surrounded by her family at Edgewood, Bismarck.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 19, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. Family will greet guests one hour prior.
Inurnment will be held in the summer at Sunny Slope Cemetery, Mott, ND.
Jackie was born in Mott, ND on January 9, 1938, to Sebastian and Mary Herner. As a young girl she worked at the drug store in Mott. She graduated high school and soon after was united in marriage to Arlen Oberlander on November 15, 1955. From this union they had five children.
In the 20 years she lived in Mott, Jackie worked with Arlen on the family farm for a short time until Arlen attended barber school and they set up shop in Mott. She worked at the Mott Drug Store, The Soil Conservation Office, and Dr. Gjerstad’s dental office. She was proud of her faith and service to Trinity Lutheran Church.
When Arlen started selling insurance out of his barber shop in Mott, Jackie was an important part of building his business. They later moved to Dickinson and worked as a team for 24 years where together they built a successful insurance business. While residing in Dickinson Jackie and Arlen enjoyed square dancing, weekly games of pinochle and many rounds of golf. Some of her happiest times were spent caring for her garden and rose bushes, gathering with her friends for coffee and she was an avid walker. Above all else Jackie got her greatest joy from spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her home was always open to visitors and there was always the smell of something good baking in the oven. After Arlen passed, Jackie lived at the Terrace and then moved to Edgewood. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to all of the caregivers at each of these living facilities. This past July her children and grandchildren were able to take Jackie to see her favorite baseball team, the Minnesota Twins. The Twins had one of the best games of their season and won that game. Her family would like to think it was because one of their longtime biggest fans was cheering them on at the game. We will all cherish the memories from that wonderful weekend.
Jackie will be greatly missed by her children, Kevin (Hildy) Oberlander, Jocelyn (Chuck) VanLishout, Kyle (Donna) Oberlander, and Kerry (Rebecca) Oberlander; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Quinn, Tyne, Heather, Lindsey, Tyler, Corey, Kaylen, Michael, Hannah, and Brady; her great grandchildren, Alden, Claire, Cullen, Corban, Scottie, Veya, Duncan, Piper, Luke, Clara, and Hanley; step grandchildren, Keyan, Reese, and Hanah; her brother, Kermit Herner of Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlen; son, Scott; parents, Sebastian and Mary; brother, Billy; sister, MaryAnn; and brother, Donald.
