James Cooke, 87 years old, passed away on August 9, 2026. He passed gently through the final door to heaven in his sleep.

A Memorial Service will start at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 3117 E Century Ave.

Jim was born in Bottineau, ND, and lived in Thief River Falls, MN, Lawton, OK, Fargo ND, was a 30-year resident of Garrison, ND, and a three-year resident at Touchmark in Bismarck. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, LaVera; his daughter Melody (Brian), 7 grandchildren, Amber, Lucy, Emily, and Sammy—children of Scott and Sherri Cooke; and Timothie, Terrin, and Sean--children of Melody and Brian Warren; and 5 great-grandchildren, Johnnie Ray, Ashton, Scarolett, Sawyer, and Finley.

James raised two children, Scott (married to Sherri Cooke) and Melody (married to Brian Warren). He was a graduate of Minot State University, a 30-year employee of General Motors, and an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling for many years.

His legacy to be found in the lives he touched. He continuously supported both his immediate and extended family.

Jim was known for his hospitality, his humor, his strength, and his commitment to his family, and was a good neighbor who was there with a helping hand whenever someone needed it.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris, sisters Judy and Joanne, and his son Scott.
