Obituary

James Schneider, 87, Bismarck, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Touchmark in Bismarck. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 11:00 AM, at the Church of St. Anne 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck with Rev. Chris Kadrmas officiating.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Parkway Funeral Service 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will start at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2:00 PM at the ND Veteran’s Cemetery.

James was born on July 18, 1932 to Willie and Odella (Schafer) Schneider in Orrin, ND, the fifth of thirteen children. He graduated from Anamoose High School and attended Minot State College. James then taught in rural schools for several years prior to entering the Army and serving in Korea. Upon his honorable discharge in 1954, he resumed teaching for several more years.

On August 9, 1954 he married MaryAnn Heisler from Esmond, ND. Together they raised four children. In October 1957, James began to work with Job Service North Dakota. He remained with that agency for more than thirty years serving in various positions and was the State Director of Employment and Training Services when he retired.

He was active in Veteran Organizations for a number of years holding various offices in local VFW and American Legion Posts, including Commander of the American Legion Post 3, Dickinson.

James is survived by his wife MaryAnn of 65 years; his daughters, Cynthia (Dan) Thompson, Clifford, ND, Susan Thurn, St. Cloud, MN, Kimberly (John) Becvar, Maple Valley, WA; son, David (Tammy), Fargo; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; seven sisters Marie Gefroh, Minot, Ann Hager, Rugby, Stella Schiele, Bismarck, Yvonne (Bill) Strauss, Green Bay, WI, Martha Fennewald, Wichita, KS, Ramona (Gary) Schmitz, Harvey, and Virginia (Dale) Davy, Valley City; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edwin, Msgr. George, Jerome, Clifford; one sister, Bonita; and two grandsons.
