Jane
Bruggeman
Jan 19, 1932 — Sep 12, 2026
Jane M. (Franciere) Bruggeman a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother has joined her husband, their spirits reunited.
Jane was born January 19, 1932, in Mandan to Daniel and Barbara (Sautner) Franciere. A lifelong resident of Mandan, she graduated High School in 1950, and began to travel to Oregon and Washington D.C. Jane married Walter W. Bruggeman May 6, 1953. Their marriage lasted 63 years until Walt’s passing March 01, 2017.
Being a very independent woman, she raised her girls to be likewise often saying it was important to be self-sufficient. Thus, they learned “guy” things from their dad like changing tires and oil or carpentry skills.
Family was extremely important and caring for her parents was a life-long joy. Jane was the official chauffeur for all their needs and travels as well as being their confidant. It was not unusual to hear laughter and lively conversation around a game of cribbage most every day.
Jane loved to travel the country for family events and vacations; east, west, north, and south. Spending 3 weeks in Italy, the country of her father’s birth, was very special to her. Tracing roots and putting together a history of family back to the 1800’s was quite fulfilling after her retirement.
Jane worked as a medical transcriptionist at St. Alexius and Mandan Hospitals finishing her career at Pathologists PC. Always liking to be busy, you could find her gardening, spoiling her Corgi’s or reading a good book. She enjoyed collecting stamps and coins as well.
Jane is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Tom) Szurek, MN; Mary (Duane) Materi, Bismarck; grandchildren; Jesse (Mariah) Hill, Bismarck, Dennis (Marisa) Hill, MN, Sara (Tim) Anderson, Mandan, Shannon (Jeff) Davison, Bismarck, Joe (Shelbi) Szurek, CO, Jacqueline (Jesse) Overlie, MN. 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. 1 sister Frances Freeman and 1 brother Daniel Franciere.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, one sister Katherine, three grandsons, Dion Obenauer, Jeremy Hill, and Michael Obenauer and one granddaughter TiAre Obenauer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, September 24, at the Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N 2nd St.
