Janet was born July 25, 1927, to Louis & Grace (Woodford) Ahr at home in Hamburg, NY. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1944 and then attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as an R.N. in 1947.

She married George Nelson Kipp on July 2, 1949, in Rice Lake, WI. Janet and George had four children, Scott, Mark, Susan, and Beth. They moved frequently through the 1950s and 1960s as George advanced in his career at Herberger’s department stores and Janet worked in various hospitals while raising their children. In 1970, they moved to Bismarck. In 1975, Janet graduated from Mary College with a B.S. in Nursing and then worked at the State Health Department for 10 years. In 1988, Janet and George retired to Palm Harbor, FL.

Janet was a devout Episcopalian, and her faith was an important part of her life. In Florida, she was active in St. Alfred’s Episcopal Church, serving on vestry, ECW, and the counting team. Frugal in her own spending, Janet was dedicated to helping others with her time and money. She volunteered at St. Vincent D’Paul Soup Kitchen in Clearwater, FL, for 20 years and was a blood donor.

In 2016, Janet returned to Bismarck and resided at Touchmark. She was active in the life of St. George’s Episcopal Church, as well as Touchmark bible study, bingo and bridge. She was known for her kindness and quick wit and was a sought-after partner for various card games.

Janet is survived by son, Mark (Antoinette McKay) Kipp; daughters, Sue (Neal) Engelman and Beth (Dennis) Lipp; sister, Amy Kipp; her grandchildren, Ryan (Holly) Engelman, Daniel (Sara Kemmet) Lipp, Kate (Matt) Stonestrom, Kristin (Matt) Koch, and John Lipp; eight great-grandchildren; and six cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; brother, Louis F. Ahr III, in World War II; son, Scott, at 22 months; and sister, Evelyn Cummings.

In lieu of flowers memorials in honor of Janet may be given to the Great Plains Food Bank or St. George’s Episcopal Church.
