Janice A. Helm

Janice Aileen Helm, 79, Bismarck, peacefully joined the Lord on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023.

A memorial service celebrating Janice's life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 30th, with visitation at 12:00 PM for family and friends, at Parkway Eastgate Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck.

Following the service, Janice will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A luncheon and refreshments will be provided at Parkway Funeral Service, after the burial.

Janice was born on November 25th, 1943, to Elmer and Anna (Thompson) Calheim. She spent her early years on a farm in McClusky, ND, and attended grade school in Mercer, ND. During the school year, she resided with her grandparents, Andrew and Matilda Calheim, as transportation to the McClusky farm was unavailable, Janice cherished her time with them and later returned to her parents' farm to complete high school in McClusky, graduating in 1961. She moved to Bismarck with plans to save for nursing school, but destiny had other plans when she met Ardell Helm. They exchanged vows on June 21st, 1962, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck.

Known for her kindness and non-judgmental nature, much like her father, Janice formed numerous friendships over the years. She primarily dedicated herself to homemaking while occasionally working part-time jobs to escape the confines of home.

Janice's interests included gardening, baking, camping, and fishing with her family, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. She also cherished the company of her dogs and her grandchildren's canine companions.

Janice and Ardell lovingly raised their five children in Apple Valley, Menoken, ND.

She is survived by her five children and one son-in-law, Wayne Helm, Mark Helm, Tammy (Tawana) Marowf, Dale (Kellie) Helm, Michael Helm (Ashley Duchsherer); along with eight grandchildren: Christopher Helm, Victoria Helm, Chelsey Helm, Cory Helm, Jenna Marowf, Benjamin Marowf, Brady Helm, Sadi Helm, and Ashley's children Aubree and Shelby. She leaves behind three great-grandchildren: Shaylee Helm, Haylee Helm, and Vincent Helm. Janice is also survived by her sister, Brenda (Jim) Sather, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ardell Helm; her parents, Elmer and Anna Calheim; her brother, Gary (Loretta) Calheim, and several sisters and brothers-in-laws, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Janice's memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends, and her legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire all who knew her. A special thank you to the staff at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center who cared for our mom while in memory care, and then later at Missouri Slope on Washington Street as well as Sanford Hospice.
