Jean Barr

Jean Barr, our beloved mother was called to her heavenly home on December 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. 

Church services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 17, at House of Prayer, 1470 S Washington St, Bismarck, with Pastor Joel Samuelson presiding. 

Jean Hagen Barr, 89, was born on February 15, 1935 to John and Eugenia (Smith) Hagen in Williston, ND. She grew up on a farm east of Williston and attended rural school, graduating from Williston High School in 1952. 

She was married to Wyatt Tofte in October 1953, from this union three daughters were born, Deanne, Tammy and Pamela.

In 1971, she moved to Mandan and worked the Public Service Commission. Jean married Robert “Bob” Barr on February 1978. 

Jean was an active member of House of Prayer, her faith in Christ was evident by the many lives she touched. Her true passion was her flower garden and yard, spending many hours making it look so beautiful. Jean enjoyed many years of playing bridge and canasta, making wonderful friends. She enjoyed fishing and camping many years and was always up for a beautiful day on the water. 

Jean enjoyed numerous travels and her trips to Norway to visit relatives were so special to her. Her to trip to South Africa when she was 70 was so exciting going on a safari. Other travels included an Alaskan cruise and the Panama Canal. Jean was always excited to see new places and meet new friends. 

Jean will be sadly missed by her daughters, Deanne (Dana) Ostwald, Pamela (Bruce) Hartwig, stepdaughters, Cheryl (David) Peterson, Sandi (Jim) Murray, grandchildren, Shane and Jason (Emma) Ostwald, Alex (Matt) Kranzler, Justin Hartwig, Mitch (Martina) Kuntz, William (Rocille) Lince, Naomi (Frank) Deroche, Jef Barr, Mike (Denise) Murray, Dan (Jennifer) Murray, Rachel Murray, Ann Marie Murray and many great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; daughter, Tammy; stepson, Robert; and stepgrandchildren, Erika and Robert.
