Jean Fortune

Jean Fortune, 93, passed away October 27, 2022. Mass of Christian burial will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 508 Raymond St., Bismarck. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele.

Jean Wamsley and her twin sister, Dean, were born to Vince and Faye (Hargrave) Wamsley on October 15, 1929, in Bismarck. Their mother, Faye, died shortly after they were born. Three years later, Vince married Beatrice Dougherty. They were wonderful parents and grandparents.

She graduated from Steele High School and was employed by Builders Supply Company in Bismarck. She married Leo Fortune in 1951. They lived in Bismarck, Dickinson and Grand Forks. Jean was employed by the Grand Forks Public Schools for 32 years. She retired from the office of Instructional Service in 2000 and moved back to Bismarck. She kept busy with family and friends and enjoyed volunteer work at church and at St. Mary’s High School Library.

Her priority in life was her family. She enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren in Texas and loved the times they spent with her. Jean will be missed and always remembered with love by her family and friends.

Jean is survived by her son, John Fortune, and his wife Lisa; grandchildren, Calvin Leonard, Kalyn Leonard, Kacy Boyd and her husband, Stephen, and their children, Braydon, Drake and Scarlett; step-grandchildren, Meagan Tiller, Ryan Tiller and his wife Kimberli, and their daughter Blakely; and her very special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; daughters, Sheila and Anne; nephew, Dennis Iszler; sister, Dean Iszler; and her brother, Alan (Sharon) Wamsley.

Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice.
