John Ackerman

John H. Ackerman, 97, Bismarck, passed away June 16, 2024. 

Public visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 19, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. 

A private family service will be held and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. 

John was born on December 19, 1926 to John E. and Katherine (Gimbel) Ackerman on a farm 10 miles northwest of Hazelton, ND. The family moved to a farm 11 miles southwest of Hazelton where he was raised and educated. 

On June 13, 1945 John entered the United States Army. He served as a German interpreter in Berlin. Following his discharge, he returned to the family farm. In 1948, he began working on the Garrsion Dam. He married Rosemarie Jenkins on February 21, 1949. In 1952, he moved to Bismarck and worked for the Amoco Refinery until retiring in 1987. 

He married Edna Haase of Bismarck on March 9, 1985. 

John was a past Governor of the of the Bismarck Moose Lodge and also sang second base with the Bismarck Elks Chorus. 

John is survived by his daughters, Coleen (David) Patience and Kimberly (DuWayne) Schoepp; three grandchildren, Shelly (Jay) Anderson, Jeff (Shannon) Patience and Jaramie (Jennifer) Schoepp; and six great-grandchildren. 

John was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings and his wife, Edna.
