John was born in Bismarck on May 3, 1962. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1980 and received his HVAC Design Degree from Wahpeton College.
On September 18, 1987, John married Penny (McCormick) in Bismarck. From this union of marriage, they had three children: Justin, Megan and Ethan.
John was employed by SPS Companies for nearly 32 years as a HVAC manager. SPS was considered a second family to John. He loved everyone he worked with from St. Louis Park, MN to Bismarck.
The most important part of John’s life was his loving wife, greatest children and awesome grandchildren. John loved life, which he worked hard and played hard. His friendships endured throughout his whole life and his positive impact on each one was indelible. He was always willing to help others and opened his home to anyone. John truly never had an enemy, nor did he judge anyone. He was one-in-a-million. His family is going to miss his laugh, jokes and funny one liners.
John is survived by his wife, Penny; children, Justin Dockter, Megan (Dalton) Emter, Ethan (Kelsey Speidel) Dockter; John’s six grandchildren that were his world: IsaBella, Anthony, Stetson & Remington Emter and Kason & Kelton Dockter; parents, Edward and Diane Dockter; brother, Curt (Andrea) Dockter; mother-in-law, Florence McCormick; in-laws, Carma (Otto) Moe, Patrick (Dorinna Jundt) McCormick, Patricia Perkins, Leroy (Lisa) McCormick, as well as many nieces and nephews that adored him.
He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; sister, Pamela; brother, Bruce; grandchild, Shiloh Jade Emter; brothers-in-law, Douglas Perkins and Robert McCormick, sister-in-law, Linda McCormick, as well as several aunts and uncles
