Jon Bergstad passed away on July 30, 2023, in Bismarck, ND at Sanford Hospital.

A funeral will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, August 4, 2023, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck (https://www.google.com/maps/search/2330+Tyler+Parkway,+Bismarck?entry=gmail&source=g).
Burial will be held 3:00 PM Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with full military honors.
Jon Bergstad was born on March 29, 1946, in Minot, ND, at St. Joseph Hospital to Raymond and Mildred Bergstad. He was raised and educated in Granville, ND. After graduating, John farmed with his family until entering the US Army. After leaving the military he moved back to Granville working for the ambulance service. While driving ambulance he met Karen Deschamp. They married in 1970, and to this union a daughter, Tonya, was born. Jon worked many labor-intensive jobs. He worked for the railroad in Minot. He also worked on Minot Air Force Base for a time. He helped his brother in law put up grain bins and sell horse trailers. He retired as a carman for the BNSF Railroad in Bismarck ND on February 2, 2002.
Jon had many interests throughout his life. He loved doing puzzles, hunting, fishing, and was a collector. He was a huge supporter of Sporting chance. He enjoyed photography and eventually passed his interest down to his granddaughter, Hannah. He loved to watch westerns and John Wayne movies. He also loved to travel and spend time with his family. Jon was a kind man. He wouldn’t think twice about offering the shirt on his back if someone was in need. He loved his daughter and his grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly; they were everything to him.
Jon is survived by his daughter, Tonya (Paul) Meyer; grandchildren, Jon Brungard and Hannah Thompson ; great-grandchildren, Freya Irene Thompson and Bennett-Seth Wayne Thompson; and three honorary granddaughters as well. Brother, Dennis Bergstad; sisters, Jean Bergstad DAgastino, and Cora Mae Bergstad Shipman; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond & Mildred Bergstad; and brothers, Marvin Bergstad and Jerry Bergstad
