Jon Bergstad was born on March 29, 1946, in Minot, ND, at St. Joseph Hospital to Raymond and Mildred Bergstad. He was raised and educated in Granville, ND. After graduating, John farmed with his family until entering the US Army. After leaving the military he moved back to Granville working for the ambulance service. While driving ambulance he met Karen Deschamp. They married in 1970, and to this union a daughter, Tonya, was born. Jon worked many labor-intensive jobs. He worked for the railroad in Minot. He also worked on Minot Air Force Base for a time. He helped his brother in law put up grain bins and sell horse trailers. He retired as a carman for the BNSF Railroad in Bismarck ND on February 2, 2002.

Jon had many interests throughout his life. He loved doing puzzles, hunting, fishing, and was a collector. He was a huge supporter of Sporting chance. He enjoyed photography and eventually passed his interest down to his granddaughter, Hannah.  He loved to watch westerns and John Wayne movies. He also loved to travel and spend time with his family. Jon was a kind man. He wouldn’t think twice about offering the shirt on his back if someone was in need. He loved his daughter and his grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly; they were everything to him.
