Joseph J. Kuntz, 87, Bismarck, passed away on April 18, 2024.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, April 25 at Ascension Catholic Church, 1825 S 3rd St, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5:30PM to 7:00PM, with a vigil service starting at 7:00PM, Wednesday, April 24 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. 

Burial will be held at 1:00 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. 

Joe was born on October 2, 1936 in Solen, ND to Jake & Rose Kuntz. 

Joe served in the United States Air Force from June 1955 to June 1959. He spent his career as a fire fighter.

He married Carol Ternes on November 28, 1957 at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary in Bismarck. 

He spent 40 years working for the Department of Transportation as a supervisor of traffic control.

Joe was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, gardening and camping. He also was an avid exerciser. He loved swimming, walking and weightlifting.

Joe was a member of the Ascension parish, Bismarck Eagles and YMCA, and an honorary member of Doc’s Hunting Club.

He had one son, Gary Kuntz, one grandson, Mitchell Kuntz and two great-grandchildren, Tai and Unna Kuntz. He also had two stepchildren, Mandy Cobb and Cynthia Barbour and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Savanna, Lilly and Becca.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Rose Kuntz; brothers, Vince, Jake, Paul, Alphonse, Bill and August; and sisters, Bertha, Caroline, Annie and Irene.

He will always be in our hearts and will be dearly missed.
