Joyce was born on December 21, 1930, to Ivan and Lucy (Matzdorf) Robinson.  Joyce was their only daughter growing up with two older brothers and two younger brothers.  After graduation from Berthold High School, she moved to Minot and started employment with Northwestern Bell Telephone. She continued to work for the phone company until her retirement in 1983, retiring with 35 years of service.  After retirement Joyce volunteered in various roles with Meals on Wheels and at St. Alexius Medical Center.  She was a member of the United Church of Christ Salem Circle.  Her favorite past times included traveling, gardening, and jigsaw puzzles. Mom’s greatest joy in life was spending time with family. She had a gift for making birthday celebrations and Christmas such special occasions.

Joyce married Harold Zook on May 12, 1957, in Berthold, residing in Minot.  After Harold’s graduation from NDSU, they moved to Bismarck in 1969, then to Mandan in 1983.  They raised two daughters, Tammy and Shelly.  As a family they enjoyed traveling with trips to the Black Hills of South Dakota. The highlight of the year was the two-week family vacation to the mountains of the national parks.  These trips were special to Joyce and her girls and after Harold’s death, she continued to travel with her children and grandchildren enjoying trips to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone and the Oregon Coast.  A favorite role of hers was being called, “Grams” and she would take Kadee and Allie to Minneapolis to shop the Mall of America during their visits back to North Dakota each summer.  Her favorite trip was driving with Tammy to Bend, Oregon, each summer to have her family all together.

Joyce will be remembered with love by her daughters, Tammy, Bismarck, and Shelly (Mike) Robertson, Bend, Oreg,; grandchildren, Kadee (Chris) Larsen, Bend, Oreg., Allie (Brian) Kolb, Portland, Oreg.; great-grandchildren, Andraya Larsen, Elliott Larsen, and Sawyer Kolb; her brother, Garland (Avis) Robinson, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Ila Robinson, Fargo, Cheryl Robinson, Wash., Marion Robinson, Wash.; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Miller Pointe for their friendship, care and compassion to Mom while she resided there.
