Kade David William Massey was born on December 20, 1998, to Sarah Massey and Jesse Stockert. Kade was tragically taken from us on August 25, 2026, at the age of 27. After being involved in a motor vehicle accident.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 1, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 3117 E Century Ave, Bismarck. A visitation will be held one hour prior. Following the service, the family invites you to join them for lunch and a time of fellowship. Burial will follow the luncheon at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.

From the very beginning, Kade was a special little boy who captured the hearts of everyone who met him. He had a way of making people love him, and that never changed. A special bond quickly formed between Kade, his Papa and Nani, David and Gaylene Massey—a bond that was never broken. When Kade was born, his Papa and Nani weren’t quite ready for their precious grandson to endure the cold North Dakota winters. In fact, his Papa took three months off from work to spend those first precious months of Kade’s life with him. The rule was simple: “Kade was not to go out in the cold.” Never mind that daycare was right across the street! Those three months were the beginning of a relationship that would become one of the greatest loves of Kade’s life.

Kade and his mom, Sarah, were close in age and in spirit. From the moment she first laid eyes on him, there was a bond between them that could never be explained, only felt. He was her adorable little boy who somehow grew into a handsome young man before she was ready for it to happen. Sarah and Kade had a knack for pushing each other’s buttons, and when they did, everyone else knew to take cover. They could argue, laugh, annoy each other, and love each other all in the same conversation. They were, in so many ways, one and the same. And no matter how much they pushed each other’s buttons, there was never any question of how deeply they loved one another.

In 2003, Kade became a big brother when his sister, Saige, was born. At first, he wasn’t quite sure about this new little human taking some of the attention away from him, but it didn’t take long for her to completely steal his heart. As they grew older, Kade and Saige became best friends. They would stay up into the early morning hours talking, laughing, and sharing the kind of conversations that only siblings can have. Those late nights and meaningful conversations are memories Saige will carry with her for the rest of her life.

Kade was fiercely protective of the people he loved, especially his mom and his sister. No one was getting too close to Saige without Kade having something to say about it. That protective heart was simply part of who he was. If Kade loved you, he loved you completely, and he would show up for you in his own way.

Kade had an incredible love for animals. His dog, Ghost, was his constant sidekick. Wherever Kade went, Ghost was sure to follow. He also loved the family dogs, Duke, Kash, and Chief. With four dogs running around, the house was rarely quiet, but those memories of the chaos, laughter, and companionship will always be treasured.

Family and friends were always a priority for Kade. He truly would do anything for the people he cared about. It might have been on a different timeline than everyone else’s, but Kade would be there. He had a big heart and a willingness to help that sometimes went unnoticed until you needed him—and then he was there.

Kade was a busybody in the best possible way. He loved being around people, meeting up with friends, hunting, fishing, spending time on the river, and, of course, watching and betting on sports. He could turn an ordinary day into a story that would be talked about for years. He had a personality that could not be duplicated, and there will never be another Kade.

Kade was a true athlete from a young age. He competed in basketball and football and loved the competition, the challenge, and being part of a team. A serious knee injury eventually took him away from the sports he loved, but Kade was not someone who gave up easily. He found new passions and poured that same determination into them. Fishing, hunting, and archery became a huge part of his life. He even tried his hand at bull riding when he was younger—because, of course, Kade was never afraid of a little adventure.

Kade graduated from Legacy High School in Bismarck in 2017. He continued his education at Bismarck State College, where he earned an Associate of Science degree in Power Plant Technology. In 2018, he began his career in Madison, Wisconsin, working for Madison Gas and Electric. Where he had a chance to reconnect with his brother, Jadon. He spent four years there before returning home to Bismarck. Over the next several years, Kade worked a few different jobs before finding his way to Bennigan’s in Mandan. He truly loved his job and, more importantly, the people he met along the way. Kade had a way of making connections with people, and many of those people became friends he carried with him.

But Kade’s greatest accomplishments were never found on a résumé. They were found in the relationships he built, the people he made laugh, the people he protected, the animals he loved, the adventures he took, and the memories he left behind.

Kade leaves behind a hole that can never truly be filled. His family will miss his voice, his laugh, his stubbornness, his stories, his teasing, and even the things that used to drive them crazy. They will miss the phone calls, the late-night conversations, the unexpected visits, and simply knowing that Kade was there.

Kade was deeply loved. He was one of a kind. He was not meant to leave this world so soon, and there will forever be things left unsaid, places he should have gone, and memories that should have been made.

But his 27 years were filled with love, laughter, family, friendship, adventure, and a whole lot of Kade.

Kade will forever be loved, forever be missed, and forever be a part of the people who were lucky enough to call him son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend.

Kade was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Henderson; great-grandparents, Sadiq and Grace Massey, and Robert and Stella McNeil, and Joe and Willie Stockert.

He is survived by his mother, Sarah Massey (Chris); sister, Saige Klipfel; Papa and Nani, David and Gaylene Massey; uncle and aunt, Jonathan and Staci Massey; cousins, Hailey and Addison Massey; along with many great-uncles, great-aunts, and countless friends who loved him dearly.

Also survived by his father, Jesse Stockert; sister, Jerzey Stockert; brother, Jadon Sackman (Taylor); Nana, Denise Bergquist; grandparents, Curt and Bev Goehring; uncle, Jordan Henderson (Alexis); and cousin, Braxton.
