Ken Paulus

Kenneth (Ken) Scott Paulus, Sr., 63, died October 16, 2017, in his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 21, at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N. 2nd St., Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday, October 20, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil/rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Ken was born on May 31, 1954, to Mayme Lacy and George Paulus in Harvey, ND. He graduated from Fargo South High School in 1972. He attended NDSCS in Wahpeton and obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Moorhead State. He earned a Master’s degree at UND. In 1980, Ken became a Welding Professor at Bismarck State College. Ken married Patty Thielen in 1981 at St. Joseph’s Church in Moorhead, MN. Ken and Patty made their home in Bismarck and raised four children together. Ken taught Welding at BSC for 30 years and then transferred to CETI (Continuing Education, Training and Innovation) and ran two mobile Welding units; one to MRCC (Missouri River Correctional Center) and one to the various power plants in the area. Ken helped to support his kids’ activities when they were growing up, leading Boy Scout troops and announcing for hockey games. Ken was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, and the Plumber and Pipefitters Local 300. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren; riding his motorcycle; and wintering in Corpus Christi, TX.  Ken will be deeply missed by his wife, Patty; his children, Ken Jr. (Danielle) Paulus, Fargo, ND, Lacey (Jackson) Long, Bismarck, ND, Ben (girlfriend Kayli) Paulus, Bismarck, ND, and Joey (Allison) Paulus, Fargo, ND; his brother, Doug (Sandy) Paulus, Wishek, ND; and five grandchildren, Carter, Mason, and Grace; Kellen and Brecken. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mayme. In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, the family would ask that donations be sent to Bismarck State College Foundation, 1255 Schafer St. Bismarck, ND, 58506, in memory of Ken Paulus.
