Kristen Scanlon

On the morning of September 24th, 2023, Kristen Hanson Scanlon of Maple Grove, MN, died at age 48 of complications resulting from cancer which she had not previously known about. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Monday October 16, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck. 

Kris was born to Bob & Dee Hanson in 1975. She grew up in Bismarck and attended UND in Grand Forks, transferring and earning her bachelor's degree in music education from Augsberg University in Minneapolis. She taught music for a few years and shifted her career into facilitating corporate learning and human resources.  

Kris loved music and spent years as a faithful member of the folk choir at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bismarck. She loved playing the piano and singing and fellowship. She was passionate about animals and did a lot of work with pets and people to help solve issues and improve their lives.  She was excellent at energy work and gave of herself generously, with great compassion for anyone going through difficulties in life.

Kris was preceded in death by her dad, Robert E. Hanson; grandparents, Louis and Kathlene Hanson, and grandparents Donna McFall, Robert (Bud) Gierke, and James McFall. 

She is survived by her mom, Melody (Dee) Hanson; brother, Jason (Melonie) Austad ; sister, Jamie Austad and niece, Annabelle Austad as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was cared for by the compassionate doctors and nurses at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
