Obituary

Linda Schumacher, 77, of Bismarck, passed away on September 1, 2026, surrounded by her family following a brief and unexpected illness.

Linda was born in 1948 in Linton, ND and graduated from high school in 1967. She married Mike Schumacher October 24, 1970 and this October would have been their 56th wedding anniversary. Together, they built a life in Bismarck centered around family. Linda was a member of Century Baptist Church.

Linda and Mike had two children, Nicole and Andrew, and she was especially proud of the family that grew around them. She was a loving grandma to five grandchildren and three granddogs. Nothing meant more to Linda than her family, and she treasured the time she was able to spend with them.

Linda began her career in healthcare as a CNA at Missouri Slope in 1980. She later transitioned to PT/OT/Speech scheduling at MedCenter One/Sanford Health, where she worked for 32 years before retiring in 2013. Linda also had a “fun job” at Dayton’s/Marshall Field’s from 1998–2005, where she and a group of gals unloaded new shipments of goodies. She took great pride in her work and in the friendships she made throughout those years.

Outside of work, Linda loved the simple things that made life good. Her favorite hobby was spoiling her grandkids. She enjoyed spending summers pontooning with family, taking water aerobics classes, and knitting and baking during the winter months. Her Christmas cutout cookies, spritzers, candy canes, and fudge were traditions her family looked forward to every year.

Linda will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma, and friend. Her family was her greatest joy, and she found happiness in the simple things: a clean house, fresh-baked goodies, and a visiting granddog by her side.

She is survived by her husband, Mike; her children, Nicole (Derrick) Fehr and Andy (Heidi) Schumacher; her five grandchildren, Conor Fehr (fiancée Luna Zauhar), Grace Fehr, Gavin Schumacher, Graham Schumacher, and Griffin Schumacher; her siblings, Judy Dockter and Brian (Toni) Sauter; her nephew, Jack (Connie) Dockter; and her nieces, Jody (Curt) Reeff, Kim (Scott) Sauter, and Kylie (Austin) Fettig, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Dorothy Sauter; her parents-in-law, Mike and Fran Schumacher; her brother-in-law, Dean Dockter; and her niece, Jill Holzer.

A service celebrating Linda’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Eastgate Funeral Service, with lunch and fellowship to follow. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to two organizations near and dear to Linda’s heart: Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue and Crystal Springs Baptist Camp.
