Obituary

Loraine Mae House of Bismarck, ND was received into the arms of her Savior on April 20, 2026 trusting fully in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Loraine was born on June 18th, 1930, to Carl and Mary (Wandmacher) Kuehl in Mobridge, SD. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Akaska, SD and confirmed at that same church. She graduated from Glenham High School in Glenham, SD in 1948.

Loraine married Alvin Kulm in 1948. Together they had four children—Rodger, Ralph, Kathy and Kim. Alvin passed away on January 9, 1966. Loraine and her children stayed on the farm with her father and mother’s help. Loraine married Jim House in 1970. To this union one son was born, Michael. They moved to Mobridge in 1975 where she worked at numerous businesses in town. Jim passed away in 1996, and Loraine moved to Bismarck in 1999. She was a dedicated employee at Wal-Mart until 2023 even receiving a spot on the Bismarck’s People Reporting News Facebook page which her only comment to was “I was only doing my job”.

Loraine was a devoted woman of faith and loving presence in the lives of many. Her belief in God shaped her life and inspired those around her. Her door was always open and she welcomed everyone into her home. She will be remembered for her positive attitude under all circumstances. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed giving gifts that she had made.

She leaves behind Ralph (Patricia) Kulm, Selby, SD, Kathy Seidel, Bismarck, Kim (Terry) Sjomeling, Pollock, SD, Michael (Alexandra) House, Bismarck; two step children, Judy (Jim) Holzwarth, Pierre, SD, and Jim (Arlo) House, Whitewood, SD; an “adopted” son, Don Bleyle, Detroit Lakes, MN; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 9 step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, one sister Helen Sulzle; three sisters and three brothers in infancy; two husbands, Alvin Kulm and Jim House; one son Rodger Kulm; one daughter-in-law, Ila Kulm; one step daughter; Dorothy Flores; one grandson, Rollie Seidel; and one great-granddaughter, Ariya House.
