Mabel Jeanette Keller, passed away April 7th 2026, at the age of 95, with her children by her side. Mabel was born December 31st, 1930 in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was the daughter of William and Agnes Melech. Mabel attended St. Mary’s Grade School and St. Mary’s High School in Bismarck, graduating at the age of seventeen, in 1948. A highlight from Mabel’s high school days was taking first place in a short-hand stenography competition. Because of this strong skill set, she was hired as a stenographer at MDU.
On September 29th 1949, Mabel and William married at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Church. After a brief time living in Alabama due to William’s military service, they made their home in Bismarck. Together, they raised eight children. Needless to say, she was a very busy homemaker.
Mabel was very active with the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Church choir, assisting with many church activities, the Cursillo, and Catholic Daughters of America. Mabel nurtured many friendships, and enjoyed time together for coffee, playing bridge and pinochle.
After Mabel’s children were grown, she was employed as a banquet lady at the Holiday Inn and Sheraton.
Mabel’s greatest enjoyment in life was being with and entertaining family and friends. One of her favorite past times was going on a weekly trip to the casino with her friends LuVina Reis and Phyllis Flick.
Mabel professed her faith in and love for Jesus Christ every day through prayer. She always prayed for anybody who she knew may be suffering. Mabel’s favorite saint was Padre Pio. Through faith and prayer, she believed that God would accept her as worthy of heaven and looked forward to meeting God, Blessed Mary, and her husband.
Mabel is survived by her children, Diana (Don) Roloff. Bismarck, Charles (Roberta) Bismarck, Dennis, Moneta, WY, John (Jeanette) Bismarck, Kenneth (Marilyn) Bismarck, Susan Condry, Horace, ND, Nancy (Dave) Reis, Bismarck, Glen (Jennifer) Belfield, ND.
The grandchildren always talk about Grandma Mabel’s favorite saying, when she hugged them, which was “Gamma Loves”.

A special note from Mabel’s children:
Mom and Dad’s deep belief in God has had a profound impact on our lives and Catholic faith. Our parents demonstrated through their marriage how to truly love one another and treat people with utmost kindness and respect. They provided everything that was important to us – Catholic education, their love, encouragement, and perpetual faith in God.
To us, Mabel’s name stood for Mother Always Brings Extra Love.
Mom used to talk to us about Jesus, now she talks to Jesus about us.
It brings us great comfort knowing Jesus is holding her and saying “Well Done, Mabel, Well Done.”
Mabel's family would like to thank everyone at Edgewood on Dominion who lovingly cared for our precious mom these last few months. Your tender compassion will always be remembered (especially Neeka and LeAnn). We also want to thank Caring Edge Palliative Care staff, especially Jessica. You are angels on earth and we appreciate you.
