Madison “Madi” Stumbo, Bismarck, ND, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2025 at the age of 29, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and vibrant memories.

Born in Fargo, ND, Madi grew up in Hitterdal, MN, where she was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church and was actively involved in the Salem Saints youth program. She attended Ulen-Hitterdal Public Schools, graduating with the class of 2014. Madi poured her heart into school life and was proud to be involved in so much. She was a member of the National Honor Society, played clarinet in the band, and brought her energy and joy to every activity, including softball, volleyball, basketball, cross country, choir, show choir, student council, FFA, honor band, knowledge bowl, and the yearbook committee. She later pursued her education at North Dakota State University in Fargo.

Madi’s first job was at the young age of 15, working at West Central Ag C-Store in Ulen. Her strong work ethic and warm, engaging personality opened the door to many opportunities over the years, including employment at Vanity, Macy’s and Herberger’s. Eventually, she found her true work family at Scheels, where she rose to the role of Assistant Store Leader (ASL).

When Madi met Jason in 2018 she knew she had found her true love. As they grew together, they became engaged in January of 2022, building a life filled with love and laughter.

In September of 2022, they welcomed their son, Asher. Madi loved being a mom and cherished every moment spent with Asher, whether it was sunny days spent outdoors, adventures at the zoo, or cozy nights snuggled up at home. Her beloved dogs, Daisy and Frankie, were always a part of the family; never getting left out of feeling the love she had for them.

She loved succulents and often would buy them even though many would not survive. She had a passion for taking photos and videos; her phone holds over 24,000 photos and videos. A testament to how deeply she valued capturing the little moments of life.

Madi was incredibly personable, outgoing, and full of love, the kind of person who could light up an entire room with just her presence. Her warm smile, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Madi was a bright light in the lives of so many, bringing joy, comfort, and unwavering support to her friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love and light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she touched.

Madi is survived by her fiancé, Jason Kemmis; beloved son, Asher Kemmis; father, Roger; mother, Heidi; and siblings: Davis, Jake, Nicole, and Robbie. She is also survived by her grandmother Leona Cole, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She held a special bond with her niece Sophie Nelson, and her goddaughter, Ada Kemmis.

She was preceded in death by Donald and Lorraine Stumbo, Allan Nelson, and Fritz Cole.

In lieu of flowers, memorials received will be put towards the financial future of Asher.
