Malachi Stein

Malachi Thomas Stein passed away as the result of a car accident. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

He was born on December 13, 2004, to Kacey Stein and Melissa (Feser) Lara. From the very beginning, Malachi was an active, vibrant child whose energy filled every room he entered. He had a way of leaving an impression—through his humor, his determination, and his unforgettable personality. Many joked that Malachi was destined to be a great politician one day, forever working an angle and always knowing how to make his presence felt.

At the heart of Malachi’s life was his love for family. His bond with his siblings was immense, unique, and deeply felt. He showed his affection in his own distinct way, and there was never any doubt about the depth of his love. That was simply Malachi.

Malachi attended Miller and Moses elementary schools, leaving marks so lasting that teachers remembered him by name even a decade later. He continued his education at Wachter Middle School and later graduated from Bismarck High School in 2023.

Friendship was a cornerstone of Malachi’s world. His gift for connection meant he could—and did—befriend just about anyone he met. Throughout middle school and high school, his circle of friends grew wide and deep, a reflection of his outgoing spirit and the loyalty he inspired in others.

Malachi found joy in work, discovering a passion for cooking during his time at Stonehome. He often spoke of someday opening a restaurant. After Stonehome, he worked at Buffalo Wild Wings, always eager to learn and grow. He later pursued a career as a correctional officer; certain it would be a path where he could make a meaningful difference. Though this venture was cut short, his excitement for the work and what he was learning was evident to all who heard him discuss training days with pride.

Above all, Malachi’s faith formed the core of his life. He spoke openly of his belief in God and carried a quiet, unwavering trust in a Higher Power wherever he went. Psalm 61:2— “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I”—was a verse that spoke to him deeply, and he even had it as a tattoo, a constant reminder of that enduring faith.

This was not just a belief he spoke of, but a lived assurance—shaped by prayer and a heart inclined toward hope, strength, and gratitude.

Malachi’s life, though far too short, was rich with love, laughter, and countless memories that will be treasured by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and an enduring faith that continues to inspire.

He is survived by his parents, Kacey (Hope Rademacher) and Melissa (Marcelo) Lara; his siblings: Jesse, Madison, Karlee, Kaylee, Addy, and Easton; extended family and countless friends who loved him dearly.

Malachi was preceded in death by grandparents Maggie Feser, Kenny Paulson, Geraldine Deck, and many others.
