Marilyn Tietz, 79, of Bismarck formerly of Elgin, passed away peacefully at Baptist Health & Rehab February 12, 2026.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM (MT Time), Tuesday, February 17, at Hope Congregational Church, 404 Park St, Elgin, ND.

Visitation will be held from 5-6 PM, Monday, February 16, 2026, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. A prayer service will be held at 6 PM.

Marilyn (Schmidt) Tietz was born on March 23, 1946, in Elgin, North Dakota, to Edward and Ida (Enzi) Schmidt. She was raised on a farm near New Leipzig, where she learned the value of faith, family, and hard work—principles that guided her throughout her life.

On February 14, 1965, Marilyn married the love of her life, Dean E. Tietz, in New Leipzig. Together they built a life centered on family and farming and were blessed with four children: Randy, Daryl, Michele, and Sharilyn. Marilyn devoted many years as a farm wife and homemaker, playing an essential role in the dairy operation, raising chickens, tending her garden, and caring for her family.

In 1992, Marilyn began working for Dakota Hill Housing, where she faithfully served for 22 years. After Dean's passing on August 15, 2013, Marilyn retired then moved to Bismarck in October 2014 to be closer to family.

Marilyn enjoyed sewing and reading, but her greatest joy was always found in caring for others. Whether helping on the farm, preparing meals, or spending time with her children and grandchildren, she poured her heart into everything she did. Her steady presence, strong work ethic, and loving spirit will be deeply missed.

She was active in the Assembly of God Church in Elgin and, after moving to Bismarck, attended Capital Christian Center, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

Marilyn is lovingly survived by her children, Randy Tietz (Lori Wolff) of Bismarck, Daryl (Lori) Tietz of Bismarck, Michele (Sean) Mills of Fresno, CA, and Sharilyn Duppong (Deno Muller) of Bismarck; her grandchildren, Brennan Mills, Easton Mills, Gina Tietz, James Tietz, Riley Mueller, her sisters, Lyla Skaggs and Scharlott Walter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean E. Tietz, her parents, Edward and Ida Schmidt, her brothers, Ervin Schmidt and Harry Schmidt, her nephew, Keith Schmidt, and her great-niece, Jessica Jones.
