Marlys Schimke

Marlys Schimke, 91, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at the Missouri Slope nursing home.

Cremation has taken place, and a family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Special thanks to the staff at Missouri Slope for taking such wonderful care of our mother these last few years.

Marlys was born in Harvey, ND, to Henry and Amanda Miller. She attended farm school and graduated from Harvey High School. She married Darwin “Bud” Schimke, and together they had four children: Todd, Timm, Troy, and Lori. Bud passed away in 1974. A few years later, she married Bill Degenstein, who passed away in 2003.While raising her family, Marlys worked at a number of Harvey businesses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Bud and Bill; four brothers and sisters; and her son, Troy

She is survived by her children: Todd (Nyla), Timm (Susan), and Lori (Clay); daughter-in-law, Lori; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren; and her close friend, Patsy Frey.
