Maureen was born on January 22, 1930, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Alvin Cecil “A.C.” and Nettie J. (Brown) Dance. She was raised and educated in Menoken and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1947. She continued her education at Bismarck Junior College for one year.

On June 12, 1948, she married Albert H. Kershaw in Bismarck. Together they made their home in Menoken and were blessed with six children. Caring for her family and home was a full-time devotion for Maureen, while Albert worked as a full-time mail carrier.

Maureen was an active member of the Menoken Methodist Church and the North Dakota Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary, serving as State President from 1990 to 1991. She was also involved with the Menoken and Burleigh County Homemakers and was honored as Outstanding Homemaker in 1988. She was the treasurer for the Menoken lunch program for many years.

Maureen had a special talent for baking and enjoyed making wedding cakes, including each of her children’s wedding cakes, as well as many others for family and friends. She was also an avid collector of mailboxes and butterflies, whether in stamps, coins, figurines, or other keepsakes. She and Albert enjoyed bowling league and square dancing. They also played pinochle with neighbors, rotating houses every week.

Maureen is survived by her daughter, Linda Arveson; sons, Albert G. (Colleen), Cecil (Zella), Larry, and James “Jim” (Lori) Kershaw; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as bonus daughters Marilou McCormick Voegele and Patti Salter Ennen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; son, Ronald; grandchildren, Roger, Robert and Amanda Kershaw; parents, Alvin Cecil “A.C.” and Nettie J. (Brown) Dance; sisters, ArllyceKnappenburger and Marian Barbie; brother, Maurice Dance; and son -in-law, David Arveson.
