Mavis was born July 29, 1932, to Sivert and Anna (Ramnes) Kleppen in Dodsland Saskatchewan Canada, the youngest of seven children. In 1942 the family moved to Columbus North Dakota.

Mavis taught in a one room schoolhouse for a short time in Clayton Township. Mavis married Gordon Gullickson on April 20, 1954, in Columbus North Dakota, enjoying 61 years together. Together they had five children Wayne, Robert, Greg, Leah and Larry. They moved several times throughout their marriage finally settling in Bismarck.

Mavis loved cooking, sewing gardening, crocheting, and canning for her family and friends. She made delicious meals for the family, and everyone was welcome at her table and often dad would surprise her with unexpected dinner guests. That was no problem for Mom. She could always whip up a batch of pancakes and sausage gravy or pull a meal together from her plentiful pantry. She was known for her delicious bread, caramel rolls, and lefsa.

She loved music and dancing, especially with dad and could often be heard playing the piano.

She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in March 1960. Mavis’ love for teaching extended well beyond her family. She loved to teach people about her heavenly father Jehovah and help others to learn what the Bible teaches. She and Gordy served as regular pioneers (full-time ministers) for 34 years together and she continued on after Gordy passed away in 2015. She and Gordy had the privilege of traveling six times to international conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses and made wonderful friends wherever they went. Ukraine, Germany, Russia, Poland, Estonia and Hungary. Mavis also had the privilege of helping a number of people to the point of baptism. Her deep love for her family extended to her large spiritual family.
