Maynard "Jake" Jacobson

Maynard “Jake” Thomas Jacobson, 77, Mandan, passed away May 11, 2024. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at First Lutheran Church, 408 9th St NW, Mandan. Family will greet guests one hour prior at the church.

Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Jake was born June 6, 1946, to Raymond and Elsie (Gullickson) Jacobson in Crookston, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in Minnesota, graduating from Fertile High School.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1970. He was stationed mostly stateside, but spent one year in Vietnam. Because of his military service, Jake was recently awarded a Quilt of Valor. The Quilt of Valor Foundation awards war veterans handmade quilts to recognize and honor their service to the country.

After discharge from the military, he worked for an electrical wholesale distributor in Fargo, and later transferred to Bismarck.

On August 4, 1984, he married Elaine (Tangen) Meissner. From this marriage, he gained two step-sons, Randy and Jeremy. Jake and Elaine were also blessed with a son, Bradley, and a daughter, Kimberly.

In his spare time, Jake enjoyed spending time on the garden tractor taking care of the lawn. He was also an avid reader, enjoying military fiction and westerns. During his retirement, Jake and Elaine made many road trips, mostly throughout Minnesota. They also traveled to Niagara Falls and Alaska.

Jake is survived by his wife, Elaine; step-children and children, Randy (Deanna) Meissner, Mandan; Jeremy (Jennifer) Meissner, Parker, CO; Brad (Gail) Jacobson, Delano, MN; and Kim (Johnathan) Dalbec, Mandan; nine grandchildren, Brianna (Eric) Meissner, Brian Meissner, Hunter Meissner, Madelyn Meissner, Xander Meissner, Noah Jacobson, Evan Jacobson, Frederyk Dalbec, Sawyer Dalbec; sister Emily (Ted) Veen, Harwood; brother Norman (Bonnie) Jacobson, Minot; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Elsie Jacobson, a brother Robert Jacobson, and a sister Nancy Jacobson.
