Melvin Ressler

Melvin Jacob Ressler, 81, Bismarck, passed away February 21, 2023.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, Feb. 28, at McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 N 6^th St., Bismarck.

Visitation will be held 5-7:00 PM, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 PM, Monday, Feb. 27, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Melvin Jacob Ressler was born on June 14, 1941, in Mandan, ND. The son of Jack and Caroline (Schaff) Ressler. He grew up on the family farm and attended county schools near Odense, ND.

At the age of 14 he started working for his uncle Paul Schaff and other local farmers. He began his trucking career with E&M Trucking and later, Berger Brothers Trucking. In May 1995, he and Shirley started their own business, Mel Ressler Trucking.

On Nov. 27, 1981, he married Shirley (Rath) Heinrich at McCabe UMC. They made their home in Bismarck. Together they enjoyed spending time with family. They also enjoyed their travels - cruising the Caribbean and visiting far away places like Alaska, Norway, and Australia.

Melvin's hobbies included collecting toy tractors and restoring antique tractors and farm equipment. He always stayed busy doing something like haying or tinkering away in the shop. He was a long-time member of the Mandan Eagle’s Club.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley, Bismarck; son, Les (Patty) Ressler, West Fargo; daughter, Dawn (Donnie) Albrecht, Bismarck; step daughter, Patti Zacher, Mandan; grandchildren, Ali, Katelyn (Josh-fiancé), and Bryce Ressler, and Brianna and Miranda Albrecht; step grandchildren, Josh Baggenstoss and Amy Jo (Kal-fiancé) Baggenstoss; sister, Marian (John) Grasl, Bismarck; and sisters-in-law, Marge Ressler, Mary Ressler and Joyce Ressler; along with many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward, Harry and Adam; and his infant sister, Amelia.
