Michael J. Feyereisen, 81, Bismarck, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in a Bismarck hospital.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at St. Katherine Catholic Church, Braddock, ND.
Michael John was born on January 13, 1944, in Bismarck, ND, the son of Adolph and Marie (Dietlein)Feyereisen. He was raised and educated at Braddock, ND, graduating from Braddock High School in 1962. Michael married Maxine Moch on July 6, 1968. An unfortunate vehicle accident took the couple to Glasgow, Montana, where he completed a hotel/motel management course. His first job was in Sun Valley, Idaho, from there they went to a ski resort in White Mountains, AZ, and eventually returned to North Dakota, where he was assistant manager at the Bismarck Kirkwood Motor Inn for many years. Maxine also worked in some capacity at all the different hotels, working next to her husband. Staying put wasn’t in Mike’s future. They moved to Sandpoint, ID, where they managed a ski resort, then to Jamestown, and eventually they purchased the BilMar Motel in Rolla ND. When they retired in the early 2000s, they moved to Hazen, which gave them access to lots of fishing. After 26 moves, they made their final one in 2014 when they moved to Bismarck. His determination, resiliency and strong mind helped him through many medical challenges he faced though life.
Mike and Maxine loved to fish, play cards, and spend time with family and friends. Mike enjoyed gopher and deer hunting and doing crossword puzzles. A talented woodworker, Mike made many bird houses for special people in his life. Although Mike and Maxine never had children of their own, they were like second parents to many of their nieces and nephews. From the time they were little he instilled values, gave good guidance, and as they grew older, the advice grew wiser. Throughout the years, a few of the nieces and nephews even had the opportunity to work for Mike and learned so many life lessons. Some may call Mike a character or a card, as he was full of jokes and giving people a hard time. In particular one year at his in-laws, he was showing the nieces and nephews how easily he could blow the insides out of the Easter eggs- puffing up his cheeks, with an exaggerated face and making noises, producing laughs from everyone around, and in the end, he was just as non-successful as the rest in blowing out those eggs.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maxine; siblings, Ann Trom, Bismarck, Paul (Grace) Feyereisen, Bismarck, Rosemary Feyereisen, Albany, OR, Norine Feyereisen and Viola (Dennis) Schwind, all of Fargo; Maxine’s siblings, Don Moch, Kintyre, Donna Frohlich, Bismarck, and Pam Bitz of Fargo. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; special goddaughters, Lynne Jahner, Fargo and Kristin Rick, Battle Lake plus his great friend, Mike Wuori.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Adolph Feyereisen, Jr and wife, Lorraine.
