Michael Haas

January 31, 1949 — September 22, 2024

Bismarck

Michael was born in Portland, Oregon to Reuben and Margaret Haas, both deceased. He spent most of his childhood years in Mandan, and graduated from St. Mary's High School, before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corp. After three years in the Marines, including a tour in Vietnam, he returned to school to become a graphic artist. He returned to school again at age 50 and went into nursing, and became an LPN. He then spent 17 years with Sanford, where his coworkers enjoyed working with him because he was so “freaking pretty”. He retired in 2017.

In addition to Michael's parents, Reuben and Margaret Haas, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Jack, and his sister Marcetta. He is survived by his wife Judy, who has loved him for 42 years and will miss him. He is also survived by his son Michael J. Haas, and two grandchildren Madison, and Mason Haas. There are also two surviving step children Shannon Kahne and Trevor Rhyne.

David Nichols, Michael's father-in-law, summed it up nicely when he said, “I knew Mike for 42 years and was always glad to have him as part of the family, even though he was a Marine. He was a very good friend.” Topped off with raspberries.

A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM, Monday, September 30 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with full military honors.
