Burial will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 5 at Glueckstal Cemetery near Tappen, ND.

MoDean was born in Jamestown on Jan. 17, 1953 to Arthur and Edna (Gums) Zimmerman. She was baptized on April 19, 1953 at Glueckstal Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith on May 26, 1968. MoDean grew up on the Zimmerman family farm in Kidder County. As the eldest daughter, she helped her mother with meals, housework and caring for the rest of her siblings. She attended school in Napoleon and graduated from Napoleon High in 1971. She attended Mary College, Bismarck, and graduated in 1975 with a B.S. degree in elementary education. MoDean taught school in Hurdsfield for a year before moving to Bismarck where she worked at Supervalu for many years and was well-loved by her customers.

She married David Dick on June 19, 1976 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Napoleon. They had two children, Donavon and Deidra. MoDean was a wonderful and devoted mother.

MoDean enjoyed growing flowers and tending to her garden. Her favorite hobbies included putting together jigsaw puzzles, reading in the sunshine, playing piano, listening to music, and spending any other free moment engaged in needlework and sewing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Napoleon and her faith gave her great comfort and strength in life. MoDean was a very nurturing and caring lady, a true angel on earth.

Due to health issues, she moved to Fargo in 2015 to be with her loving daughter. She lived at Arbor Park Assisted Living Facility where she was loved by all.

MoDean is survived by her two children, Donavon Dick, Lincoln, and Deidra Dick and her Fiancé Matt Schwindt, Fargo; siblings, Steve (Kimberly) Zimmerman, Fargo, and Twyla Zimmerman, Tappen; nephew, Isaac Zimmerman, Bismarck; niece, Heather (Matt) Woodley, Grand Forks; great-nephews, Noah and Zachary Woodley.

She was preceded in death by her brother, LeRoy Zimmerman; parents, Arthur and Edna Zimmerman; and grandparents, Gottlieb and Mary (Winkler) Zimmerman and John J. and Rose (Deile) Gums.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in MoDean’s name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at LBDA.org.
