Obituary

Norman Lee Ciavarella, 83, of Bismarck, formerly of Mandan, passed away on August 20, 2026.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Norman was born on December 5, 1942 to Herman Peter and Adelaide Virginia (Shouss) Ciavarella at Bismarck Hospital. He grew up in the Mandan area and attended the Mandan school system, graduating in 1960. He later attended Dickinson State College.

From an early age, Norman understood the value of hard work. Throughout his younger years, he worked a variety of jobs, including at Earl D. Hartung & Associates, Veigel Engineering, and KLJ. In 1988, Norman put his experience and knowledge to work for himself when he started NLC Consulting. He owned and operated the business until his retirement. Norman was well known for his artistic eye and precise ability in creating designs and completing projects, skills that became a defining part of his work at NLC Consulting.

Music was also an important part of Norman’s life. In the 1960s, he played in a band with his uncle called the Cheverones. He later enjoyed making music with his cousins and uncles as part of a group known as the Crazy Italians. These years provided Norman with many good memories and time spent with family.

Norman met Beverly Youness in 1969, beginning a relationship that would last a lifetime. The couple was married on October 20, 1973. They made their home in Mandan for 35 years before eventually moving to Bismarck.

Norman will be remembered by those who knew him for his hardworking nature, love of music, and the time he shared with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; brother, Les “Skoog” (Kay); sisters, Mava (Don) Perry, Faye (Gary) Hanson, and Cork (Myron) Gordon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Adelaide, and his sister, Patricia.
