Norman J. Ostboe, 85, Bismarck, passed away August 8, 2025. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 N 4th St, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 15 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck.
Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 18 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Norman was born January 15, 1940 to Kenneth and Clara (Balliet) Ostboe. He was raised and educated in Carson, graduating from Carson High School in 1958.
Norm served in the U.S. Army from January 1959 to December 1960. Upon his honorable discharge, he enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in April 1961.
He married Darlene Reimers on May 4, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Together, they welcomed four children.
In May 1962 he began his career as a full-time technician for the NDNG. He was discharged in May 2000. Following retirement, Norm worked part time for Mandan Steel and the Bismarck Event Center. He volunteered with the Bismarck Senior Center, the RSVP Plus program, and the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation, and as an usher at Trinity Lutheran.
Norm enjoyed golfing and fishing with his two sons and watching the Minnesota Twins, Vikings games and westerns.
Norm is survived by his wife of 63 years, Darlene; daughter, Sheri (Don) Olson, Battle Lake, Minn.; son, Jay Ostboe, Bismarck; son, Randall, Mandan; five grandchildren, Tracy and Amanda Pfeifle, Ryan (Amina), Matthew (Jess) and Wes (Mersadez) Olson; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Amira, Brooklyn, and two more coming in November 2025; brother-in-law, Michael (Sandi) Ranum; and two nephews, Andy and Mark.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin; parents, Kenneth and Clare Ostboe; brother, Gene; parents-in-law, Otto and Esther Reimers; and sister-in-law, Carol Ranum.
Memorials may be sent to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or Trinity Lutheran Church.
